With all of the campaign news focused on the hubris of Donald Trump, we tend to forget that our local elected officials often fall into the same cycle of pompousness and arrogance. But photos have been circulating on the web of an event held by State Senator Maria Sachs that takes the cake for naked egotism by a politician.
Sachs replaced “In God we Trust” on the state seal with her own name.
Now I’m no religious scholar, but I’m pretty sure that erasing God’s name and replacing it with your own is a big No-No.
Michael Nelis, Chairman of the United Christians of Florida, clearly isn’t happy about it:
‘Only fools say in their hearts, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good’ — Psalm 14:1. ‘Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows,’ — Galatians 6: 7.
However, not everybody was frustrated with Sachs wiping away God’s name.
Militant atheist and blogger Chaz Stevens, known for leading prayers to Satan at various City Commission meetings in Sachs’ district, said “with everything I’m doing in her district, I’m glad somebody recognized we need to start taking God out of government.”
